Les Couloirs du Temps

Description

"Les couloirs du temps" : a 120 page black and white comic book by Sammy Stein , coming with a CD compilation, drawing booklet and a poster designed by the artist.

Our first collaboration with the drawer goes back to the end of 2008, when we asked him to design the cover of our CD compilation "Ego Twister Party Ruiners vol.2". For this record, Sammy delivered a psychedelic and acidulous cover, as well as a splendid six panel pictures for the booklet.

Admirer of his work, we organised some time later a first exhibition of his work at the No Soda Studio (Angers - France), which has lead the Galery 5, situated in the heart of the university library of Angers, to offer him an artistic residence to prepare a more consequent exhibition of his work from the 30 of april to the 26 of June 2010.

For this event, Sammy Stein chosed to transform the 70 meters long corridor of the library into a vast oneiric fresco, gathering more than 200 drawings and a huge wall drawing. set around historical periods : the Big Bang, the Prehistory, the Middle Ages, the 18th century, the Modern World, the Futur and the End of the World.

"The Corridors of Times" also provides to Sammy Stein the thematic of a black and white 120 pages comic book (16 x 23cm), published by En Marge Editions, and coming with an english translation : after years of searching, a knight finds the Corridors of Time, and enters them to lead a mysterious quest, chasing his blank memories.

His typical fines lines and spontaneous style, already visible in "Claquettes & Dancemusic", his drawing collection book published in 2008 by the same editeur, is now illustrating a an enigmatic narrative thread. This tale perfectly fits in the frames of pevious works, and develops some of his favourites thematics.

Music takes a important place in Sammy Stein universive, himself being a DJ within the parisian collective Renardo Crew. We welcomed with enthusiasm his suggestion to create a musical compilation that would be a third vision on the theme of his exhibition. We insist on the fact that this record isn't meant to be listened while reading the comic book, as it's not the soundtrack this story.

We asked together several musicians, with whom we already worked or that we appreciate the work, to create a song around one of the historical period presented in the exhibition. To inspire them, we provided some drawings and a few mysterious instructions, sometime in the form of a few words.

In the spirit of ecclectism of the label, the musiciens gives us 15 tracks mainly sung in french, sometimes funny, lo-fi, pop or energetic, and perfectly integrating the mood of the exhibition.

This CD isn't available without the comic book pack.
